Training seminar for high school teachers

Wednesday afternoon September 25, 12:30-17h, University of Utrecht

Organized by the NGG Working Group Religion Education

Fee: €47,50 – registration at a.heijstek@uvt.nl

Instagram-images and new visual languages such as emojis are familiar, easily accessible and appealing to both high school students and teachers. This seminar discusses Instagram-images of #religioustattoos, hijab-emojis and other modern-day examples of images related to religion. It explores how to use these and other new images and visual languages as sources to reflect on themes such as diversity, globalization and identity. Assistant professor Méadhbh McIvor (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen) and high school teacher Joël Valk (Corderius College) will speak about examples of such images in their lectures, after which teaching methodologist Marije Verkerk and Joël Valk will explore how to use them effectively with and for high school students in two parallel workshops.

Please note: apart from the lecture by dr. Méadhbh McIvor, this seminar will be held in Dutch.
